Rum for Breakfast is the addictive mix of friendship, adventure and a strange surfing ritual from Panama. A project with which frontman Machiel Scholten shows all sides of his colorful character. Sometimes these are pop songs that sound like a cool breeze on a hot day, other times it is melancholic indie rock that grinds and crackles. Yet it always sounds like the writer of the songs himself: relaxed, spontaneous and intimate. Next year the band will release the first singles from their debut album: fresh pop songs

With his regular bandmates as musical support, Machiel is working on his debut album in his DIY studio (read: camper). A record that fits perfectly in the record collection of fans of JJ Cale, The Whitest Boy Alive and The National. With songs about traveling, meeting new people, love and adventure. But the band really comes alive live. For example, Rum for Breakfast won the audience award of the Rotterdam Grand Prix in 2020, performed at festivals such as Surfana Festival and did a real Wadden Island tour. Now the group is looking forward to the summer, when they can travel around with their new music and a sip of rum on the side.
