German-Iranian Roxana Küwen Arsalan juggles with her feet in a unique way. She graduated from Fontys Circus in Tilburg in 2013. In ‘OMÂ’ (a combination of the German ‘Oma’ and the Iranian ‘Mâdarjun) she brings her two grandmothers, who have never met in real life, together for a cup of tea. Because it is a solo performance, Roxana plays both her grandmothers in this personal story full of colorful characters, poetry and humor.

Roxana juggles balls, teapots, stereotypes and languages. She plays with her German and Iranian origins, sometimes absurd and funny, but also serious, sincere and in dialogue with the audience. A search for identity that makes you think and invites us to question our (pre)judgments about cultural differences. Using a potato and a pomegranate, Roxana explains this to us in a striking and playful way. An endearing personality with a pearl of a performance!

In the performance Omâ (and in the video trailer below) different languages are spoken. But rest assured, in Rotterdam the language of the performance will be English. Especially for Circusstad, Roxana also throws some Dutch into the mix with her gift for languages, so that everyone, young and old, can experience this performance effortlessly!
