However, the staircase is much more than just an acrobatic device.Ákri’ is a Greek word and means “threshold”. The staircase forms the threshold between two worlds, an obstacle that must be overcome. Moreover, Manel escapes reality via the staircase and finds an imaginary, free world.
Through trial and error and with disarming humor, Manel takes young and old on an emotional journey. His special performance was one of the great surprises in the international circus world last year and is a model of how classical circus techniques, artistic expression and physical theater can seamlessly merge.

The performance on 30 April will be followed by a discussion from 3.40 pm to 4.10 pm.

The performance Ákri (and video trailer below) contain some scenes with text. These will be spoken in English in Rotterdam. However, the performance is mainly visual and can be experienced effortlessly by everyone, young and old. Circus is a universal language that everyone understands!
