In ‘The Idle Hour’, Samuel Rhyner and William Blenkin battle it out with an extraordinary contraption: a hamster wheel so large a person can walk inside it. This thrilling and physically intense performance keeps audiences on both sides of the wheel on the edge of their seats and the attention of the spectators at all times.
The driving soundtrack and relentless rhythm severely test the two artists' endurance. The wheel becomes both a symbol and an instrument of their existential struggle: a metaphor for the endless race toward elusive happiness.
Without words, but with a powerful interplay of acrobatics, dance and vibrant sound, ‘The Idle Hour’ invites us to reflect on the pressures of modern life, the value of standing still, and finding meaning in a world that never pauses.
